As my fragrance collection continues to grow, I decided to continue to document my favorites in the series ‘Fragrance of Note’. This series will be my way of sharing those fragrances that have earned a special place on my vanity. Our second fragrance of note is Replica Beach Walk by Maison Margiela. I recently talked about Bal D’afrique By Byredo, and many of you expressed interest in other recommendations.
I was first drawn to Beach Walk because of its simple apothecary like bottle. After one spritz, I was instantly transported back to Sunday family beach days. I grew up in Florida, a short drive from the beach. Sundays were always family days that began with early morning Mass at our local parish, followed by a quick stop at Publix to pick up everyone’s favorite sub, and then a full day at the beach. My childhood Sundays hold some of my favorite memories, and Beach Walk is the perfect nostalgia. For me, this is precisely what a perfume should do – your signature fragrances should be those that spark joy and nostalgia.
If there were one summertime fragrance for beach lovers, it’s this one.

You all know I love a good brand story! When I buy anything of sentiment or personal, I always spend time reading about the brand and designer. There’s just something about knowing the history of something that makes it all the more intimate and unique. Beachwalk is my first fragrance from Maison Margiela and has sparked an interest in trying more of their REPLICA collection.
Maison Margiela is a French fashion house, founded in 1988 by the Belgian designer, Martin Margiela in 1988 in Paris. The House was founded on the principles of deconstructing, reinventing, and redefining classic silhouettes. In 2010, the House launched its first perfume, and in 2012 it extended its fragrance line to their ‘Replica’ collection. Each scent in the collection is inspired by images and memories that echo the collective unconscious as well as its wearer’s personal history.
Beachwalk was formulated to invoke the memories of a summer beach day, leisurely walks along the ocean, the feeling of sand between your toes, and sea-salted hair.
The best way to describe this fragrance is ‘summer in a bottle.’ It’s definitely a floral fragrance with a strong ode to the beach. If you like the smell of sand, sun, and sunscreen, you’ll love Beachwalk. It does have somewhat of a “sunscreeny” scent but as an Allure editor described it “a zillion times more sophisticated.” It’s a strangely pleasant and memory-evoking smell. It’s summery, sweet, warm, nostalgic, beachy, and feminine in the best ways.
